Food Waste Reduction for Bakeries

PRM launch the BioDigester, helping businesses to save money by reducing their food waste costs.

The BioDigester can reduce waste by up to 80% saving money on waste collections and resulting in a valuable soil improver.

For smaller producers, the BioDigester can reduce waste volume significantly. In as little as 24 hours food waste can be reduced by 80%, leading to fewer bins. A typical example is 3 lifts of 5 bins a week decreasing to 1 lift of 3 bins per week, a drastic reduction. The resulting product can provide value as a soil improver or biomass fuel.

The UK designed and manufactured BioDigester is available in various sizes, capable of processing between 200kg – 5000kg per day. The equipment works by using bacteria to digest organic waste. The units have been installed in a range of sites, from boutique pub/hotels to national staff canteens. They performed superbly in bakeries, as the yeast and bacteria react very well together, making the process extremely efficient. Due to its success with bread products, we are proud to announce that we have joined the Craft Bakers Association.

With the issue of food waste being such a concern, PRM Waste Systems were eager to provide a solution. MD Brian Moore says on the subject “being a provider of turn-key waste solutions, we were aware that we could help to ‘close the loop’ by making food waste a focus. Food waste is becoming a financial burden to businesses, who are also becoming increasingly concerned with their carbon footprint. I was keen to be able to provide not just a reduction in waste volume but a solution in which the energy from waste could be utilised”.

So whether you are looking for a reduction in food waste or an alternative bio-fuel, the BioDigester could be the option for you.
